The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce along with Connersville TV3 and the Connersville NewsExaminer, are hosting a General Election Candidates' Forum. Each public seat with jurisdiction over the entire Fayette County area will be included (time will not permit for township or precinct seats). Residents of Fayette County will have the opportunity to hear candidates speak and answer specific questions on the position for which they are running. Both the Democrat and Republican candidate for each county-wide, state, and federal seat will be invited to participate. An independent Moderator will control the forum, allowing each candidate to provide an opening and closing statement, and then answer position-specific questions within an allotted time. THIS IS NOT A DEBATE.
Our county, state, and nation have difficult issues to handle. It's not enough to vote for the candidate who lived here the longest or is related to someone next door. Spend the time getting to know the candidates. We have many new faces registered for this election. We need thoughtful, competent officials who have real-world experience in the area they seek to serve. Public service, whether elected or hired, should never be guaranteed life-long employment. Government employees are accountable to their actions, must be fiscally responsible, and willing to look at "best practices," even if it means reducing workforce or changing age-old policy. The business membership of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce are looking for those candidates who can live up to this criteria. Leadership in the private sector must continually evaluate their effectiveness to remain viable. We seek government officials who will be serious in their management and stewardship of the public trust.
